Marina Crawford

I was born in Ottawa, Canada, and have been a west coast resident for twelve years. My photographic experience goes back thirty years. I have worked extensively in colour and black and white including doing darkroom work in both. I have also enjoyed the transition from traditional to digital photography, yet I still pride myself on exhibiting non-manipulated images. My work has been described as “painterly in quality”, which is very fitting since I have always wanted to capture a sense of surrealism in the commonplace scenes I photograph.

I have exhibited in Ontario and British Columbia and presently have work in several locations and galleries on the Sunshine Coast. In August 2002, I co-organized and participated in an exhibit with other Sunshine Coast photographers at the Sechelt Arts Centre addressing the theme of “Globalization”. Since moving to the Sunshine Coast five years ago, I have captured a gold mine of beauty on film thanks to the natural wonders that surround me.

For the exhibit, “…still life in Vancouver…” I went back to the city to capture images that portray a bit of the pulse of life in the inner city. Myself as well as eight other Sunshine Coast photographers, banded together to present our visual perspectives of Vancouver and to help raise money for The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre.
